Winner of the Best Narrative Film award at the Tribeca Film Festival, Diane is quite an achievement for first-time director Kent Jones, who is also the artistic director of the New York Film Festival. Shot in the Hudson Valley and starring the remarkable May Kay Place as the title character, Diane is about a widow who lives to serve her friends and family, and is anxious about her drug-addict son, recently released from a rehab clinic. She is surrounded by women of her age who anchor one another’s lives. The film celebrates the humanity of an ordinary woman like Diane, recognizing that she is someone worthy of consideration, respect, and even quiet applause. Kent Jones will attend.
