World-class director Bong Joon Ho (Snowpiercer, Okja) upstaged Quentin Tarantino at Cannes this year (both their films opened on the same day), with his more serio- than comic thriller driven by anger and class hatred, punctuated by rapier slashes of laugh out-loud satire. The Kim family, dirt poor rat-trap dwellers, insinuate themselves into the affluent Park family and before you know it, take over their lives. Needless to say, the symbiosis breaks down into a brutal battle for control. Won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Also played Telluride and Toronto.
