Workaholic Fiona Maye (Emma Thompson) is an eminent High Court judge in London whose expertise is family law, although she ignores her American husband, professor Jack Maye (Stanley Tucci), who pursues an affair. While her marriage is crumbling, she is asked to rule on the case of a teenage Jehovah’s Witness, Adam, who refuses a blood transfusion that will save his life.
