This legendary unfinished film by the great Orson Welles has now been completed, with a little help from his friends. Co-written and co-produced by Welles and Oja Kodar, it was shot between 1969 and 1976 and features John Huston as an over-the-hill director trying to make a comeback with a trendy film-within-a-film that parodies fashionable European directors of the time like Antonioni and Godard. It is Welles’ amused take on the state of film, c. 1970, and a film a clef in which he mocks his enemies, including John Houseman and Pauline Kael.
