In 2014, Diao Yinan took home the Golden Bear from Berlin for his thriller Black Coal, Thin Ice, and this year he premiered his new existential thriller, Wild Goose Lake to extended applause at Cannes. Using the crime genre to examine the disorienting social changes in today’s China, Yinan’s dark and violent film is marked by edge-of-your-seat chases and thrillingly choreographed gang fights. Played the New York and Toronto Film festivals.
